The Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic supports the publications of translations of Czech literature abroad.

Grant call for 2026 - Conditions and applications for applicants based outside the Czech Republic

The results of the first round of the 2026 grant call have been published: List of supported translations 2026

The first round of the 2026 call for proposals received a record number of applications, and the requested funding significantly exceeded the grant programme’s financial capacity. Due to budgetary constraints, it was not possible to award grants in the full amounts requested for the supported projects, and the evaluation criteria had to be applied more strictly.

In addition, funds needed to be reserved for projects approved in the previous year that had not been published yet and are linked to the increased funding related to the Frankfurt Book Fair 2026 (FBM26).

Priority was also given to language areas to which the Czech Republic had committed within the FBM26 hosting project.

Other priorities included the call’s criteria; for example, preference was given to contemporary authors, and borderline genres not directly related to fiction were not supported, etc.

For the same finacial reasons, only a limited number of projects will be supported in the second round.

The application deadlines for 2026 are 15 November 2025 and 15 May 2026 (2nd round).
The application can be submitted by e-mail: translation.abroad@mk.gov.cz, or it can also be delivered physically to the address indicated in the application
